Study of Fishers' Perceptions on Environmentally Friendly Fishing Gear Criteria on The East Coast of North Sumatra

This study aimed to describe the development of types fishing gear in waters east coast Sumatra from Belawan Waters Serdang Bedagai and examine perceptions fishers based on social characteristics towards environmentally friendly Code Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF). The method used this research is descriptive using survey method. population were traps gill nets, as many 6943 people, with simple sampling or slovin method, results sample count 100 people population. Based eight categories (CCRF) understand fishers' gear, including level selectivity, biodiversity, ecological diversity, not destroying habitat, safety consumers, conditions, fish quality, very understanding 13.2 %, 25.2%, neutral 26.7%, don't 23.3% 11.4%. indicate that respondents, general, have begun realize CCRF.
